Rencontre avec Ewert and the Two Dragons !

J’avais déjà eu l’occasion de dire ici tout le bien que je pensais de l’album d’Ewert and the Two Dragons. Swann et moi sommes ensuite définitivement tombées sous le charme en les voyant en première partie de Ben Howard à Bourges, et c’est donc avec beaucoup d’empressement que je courus à l’Epicerie Moderne en ce vendredi 25 Mai. Vendredi soir… Flanquée de ma cops Caro apprentie photographe… Je courus un peu à l’appel de la bière aussi, je dois l’avouer ! Et c’est donc dans cette ambiance bon enfant et décontractée qu’on nous présenta toute la bande des dragons pour ensuite nous isoler en loge avec Ewert (lead singer) et Erki (guitariste, backing vocals).

Math’: Tout d’abord je dois vous présenter mes excuses… Parce que la première fois que j’ai lu quelque-chose sur vous c’était dans Les Inrocks, les premières mots de l’article était quelque-chose comme “ils viennent d’Estonie, bla bla bla” et c’est à peu près là que je me suis arrêtée dans ma lecture ! J’ai juste pensé ok, Next ! Et j’en suis absolument confuse… Avez-vous souvent à faire à des personnes aussi bêtes que moi ?!

[Imaginez la tête des 2 garçons, pas encore amusés et assez stupéfaits par ma question !]

Ewert : Non, je ne dirais pas ça. En l’état actuel des choses, c’est de notre faute si vous ne connaissez rien sur l’Estonie. Parce que visiblement maintenant tu en connais un peu plus et pour une bonne raison. Peut-être que tu ne connaissais pas parce qu’il n’y a rien à connaitre, non je ne vais pas m’embarquer dans cette voie ! Disons plutôt que peut-être que ce n’était pas encore le bon moment et on espère que vous entendrez bientôt d’autres groupes cools et talentueux venant d’Estonie.

Math’ : C’était d’ailleurs ma prochaine question, y a-t-il d’autres groupes talentueux comme vous ? Y a-t-il une nouvelle scène musicale estonienne ?

Erki : Oui tout à fait, il y en a une. Il y a aussi un festival à qui nous devons beaucoup, où nous avons joué juste avant la sortie de Good Man Down, le Tallinn Music Week. Il nous ont beaucoup soutenus et nous ont donné l’envie de nous expatrier, explorer et de jouer partout en Europe. Et je pense que ça a été source d’inspiration pour de nombreux autres groupes, de partir et d’aller voir ce qu’il se passe ailleurs. Personne ne l’avait vraiment fait avant…

Math’ : Alors nous devons nous attendre à une invasion de l’Est ?!

Erki : On espère bien !

Ewert : Peut-être !

Math’: Est-ce que vous vous sentez les dignes représentants de votre pays, ou est-ce que vous pensez que la musique est simplement universelle et que vos origines n’ont rien à voir avec votre musique ? Vous êtes juste un groupe, point barre ?

Erki : Et bien nous disons toujours que nous venons d’Estonie, pour que les gens comprennent pourquoi nous parlons en Anglais !

Ewert : C’est un sentiment ambivalent, pour moi personnellement je pense que oui, la musique est internationale comme le langage.

Erki : Particulièrement aujourd’hui oui…

Ewert : Notre musique ne représente pas franchement nos origines. Cela n’a rien à voir avec la musique folklorique estonienne. Il y a sûrement un peu d’inffluence américaine, irlandaise, et peut-être même des inffluences de musiques d’églises allemandes ou d’orgue que j’aime beaucoup, comme dans notre chanson « Pastorale ». Donc le spectre de notre background est plutôt large. Et je pense qu’en tant que groupe il n’y a aucun intérêt à dire que nous sommes un groupe estonien, donc nous venons d’Estonie mais voilà, ça s’arrête là.

Math’: Vous êtes en tournée en France depuis quelques mois maintenant, que diriez-vous du public Français ? Des surprises ?

Erki : La principale surprise est que les gens connaissent déjà notre musique ! Nous avons pu l’observer partout en France je crois, et c’est vraiment bon ! ça c’est une surprise ! Les gens sont chaleureux et très ouverts pour discuter de ce qu’ils pensent de notre musique, comment ils la ressentent. Donc c’est très sympa quand vous allez vendre le merchandising d’avoir une occasion de rencontrer le public, tout le monde veut discuter et partager, ça a vraiment été une bonne tournée.

Math’: Dîtes-nous en plus sur l’histoire du groupe ? Amis, famille, racontez-vous ?

Ewert : On a probablement l’air d’une famille mais nous ne sommes qu’amis ! [rires partagés !]

Math’: c’est à cause de la barbe !

Ewert: Oui et puis nous sommes tous blonds. En fait nous sommes amis depuis très longtemps.

Ewert and Erki : Donc c’est finalement comme une famille.

Math’: Tu es Ewert and donc ILS sont les dragons ?! D’où vient ce nom ? Je connaissais déjà Elliott et le Dragon, non pas vous ?

Ewert and Erki : Non… [Regards communs embarrassés face aux inepties racontées par la pauvre folle blonde en face d’eux !]

Math’ : Le film de Disney ?! Elliott et le Dragon !

Ewert and Erki : Oookey… Non… [MDR !]

Math’ : Il faudra que vous vérifiez ça, IL Y A un Elliott et le Dragon !!!

Erki : Vraiment ? Non ! Tu viens de l’inventer ?!

Ewert : Il n’y a pas vraiment d’histoire derrière ce nom. Quand on a commencé le groupe en 2009 avec le premier album, nous n’avions pas de projet sérieux, je suis sûr que nous avions de l’ambition mais c’était plutôt abstrait, pas de vrais plans. Nous voulions juste faire de notre musique et c’est que nous avons commencé à faire. Et alors nous avons fini les enregistrements et nous avions un timing à respecter, un agenda chargé avec lequel nous devions avancer vite et nous n’avions plus le temps. Ma femme a fait une blague, «et pourquoi pas Ewert and the two dragons ? » et j’imagine que j’ai dû le redire en salle de répetition et voilà, c’était ça, et nous n’avions plus le temps de trouver autre chose. Les gars n’ont jamais vraiment compris la blague ! Mais voilà c’est devenu notre nom !

Erki : C’était supposé être un nom en attendant autre chose, mais nous avions ce concert qui approchait, notre premier concert avec cet album et nous n’avions plus le temps pour trouver un autre nom…

Ewert : Nous avons essayé mais voilà…

Math’: Quelles sont vos influences, quel est votre background musical ? Qu’est-ce que vous écoutiez quand vous étiez ados ?

Erki : Plein de choses, étant donné que nous sommes 4 mecs, nous sommes amis depuis que nous avons quitté nos parents. Donc nous avons un passé avant ça, ce moment où vous engrangé vos plus grosses inffluences.

Ewert : On a tous eu une période Radiohead au même moment.

Math’ : Tout le monde en a une !

Erki : Oui c’est vrai, c’était plus ou moins au moment où nous  nous sommes rencontrés je pense ? Avant c’était les Rolling Stones…

Ewert : Trois d’entre nous vivions en coloc donc évidemment on finissait par écouter la même musique. « Oh t’écoutes quoi ? oh cool, file-moi ça ! »

Math’: Et qu’est-ce que vous écoutez en ce moment dans le tour bus ?

Erki : On écoute beaucoup de choses. On écoute énormément les groupes avec lesquels on joue, ceux qu’on a rencontré ici, on échange toutjours nos CDs. On a la chance de rencontrer tous ces artistes locaux.

Math’ : Vous avez découvert des groupes français ?

Erki : Le type avec qui on a joué à Paris : Arch Woodman. Et le groupe avec lequel on a joué à Hyères [essayez de dire Hyeres en Anglais quand ce n’est pas votre langue maternelle: son d’un chat qui tousse !] : Erevan Tusk.

Ewert : Et puis on écoute la radio, les radios locales, parce que des fois tu n’as juste pas envie d’écouter quelque-chose en particulier. La vérité c’est que l’on n’a pas un vrai équipement audio dans le bus donc on n’entend que dalle ! 

Math’: Qui écrit les paroles ?

Erki : Nous deux.

Math’ : Je suis toujours très curieuse concernant les paroles, j’aime connaitre l’histoire derrière la chanson. Jolene est un nom qui est souvent revenu à mes oreilles dernièrement. Sur R’nF nous avons fait une playlist Oldies but Goodies et nous avions mis « Jolene » de Dolly Parton. Un ami à moi nous avait alors conseillé d’écouter la version de la divine Anneke Van Griesbergen, et puis au même moment j’ai vu le film The Town dont la BO contient Jolene de Ray Lamontagne cette fois ! Mais qui est cette fille ??? Et qui est votre Jolene ?!

Ewert [posant la question à Erki] : Qui est ta Jolene ?!

Erki : ça peut rester un secret. Mais bien sûr c’est personnel, ça a à voir avec ma vie…Le prénom Jolene m’est venu car ça rime avec la mélodie du refrain. J’aimais simplement chantonner Jolene et j’ai écrit les paroles autour de ça, et au final ça collait pas mal avec ma propre vie ou en tout cas ce que je vivais à cette époque.

Math: En fait je pensais que c’était une réponse à la Jolene de Dolly Parton ?

Erki : ça l’est aussi, oui. Il y a plusieurs histoires ! Si tu ne veux pas vraiment parler de ta vie personnelle, tu la déguises ! Et du coup c’est intéressant d’avoir ces différentes interprétations possibles.

Ewert : C’est le point de vue de l’homme de la chanson de Parton.

Math’: J’ai décrit votre album comme solaire, les chansons comme “Good Man Down”, « There’s Only Love », « Jolene » donnent envie de danser aux gens ! Et à l’inverse, les chansons comme « Falling », « You Had Me at Hello » sont pleines d’émotions, sont intenses. Je dois confesser que « Sailor Man » me fait pleurer pratiquement à chaque fois que je l’entends et peu importe où je me trouve, comme devant les passagers d’un avion entier dernièrement ! Qu’est-ce que cela vous fait de provoquer ce type d’émotion sur votre public ? La danse ET les pleurs ?!

Et d’ailleurs Ewert, TU ne danses pas sur scène !

Ewert : Je suis limité de par mon rôle de clavier dans le groupe.

Erki : Il faut que l’on te trouve un synthé des années 80 !

Math’ : Et oui tu es assis, tu ne peux pas danser !

Ewert : J’ai le sentiment que les gens peuvent ressentir ce manque dans ma vie… [Fou rire général !]

Math’: Donc est-ce la raison pour laquelle vous faîtes de la musique ?

Ewert : Je ne pense pas qu’aucun d’entre nous quand il écrit les paroles ou la musique ne se place du point de vue du public pour le faire. Je ne dis pas ça dans un sens négatif, mais le fait que cela provoque ce type d’émotion dans le public n’est pas une coïncidence. Peut-être que c’est inévitable en un sens.

Erki: Oui c’est ce que je pense aussi…

Ewert : On exprime ce que l’on ressent, ce n’est pas fait intentionnellement. DANSEZ MAINTENANT, PLEUREZ MAINTENANT ! Ce n’est pas ça du tout.

Erki: Je pense que c’est effectivement inévitable, parce que si vous écrivez quelque-chose qui est basé sur de fortes émotions, vous n’allez pas perdre l’énergie, elle est constante donc si ce que vous écrivez est inspiré par de puissants sentiments alors ils seront transmis au public. Et ensuite lorsque tu vois l’effet que cela provoque sur les gens, je pense que c’est la plus belle chose qui peut t’arriver en concert, que les gens éprouvent de profondes émotions. Que ce soit de la joie ou des pleurs, peut-être que ce ne sont pas vraiment des pleurs de tristesses. Et de la même façon avec d’autres groupes vous vous sentirez agressifs, la musique est l’endroit où tout le monde vient et se rencontre et vibre passionnément.

Math’: Votre premier album The Hills Behind the Hills et Good Man Down sont très différents. Le premier est plus sombre que celui-ci ? Il semble que vous êtes plus nombreux, qu’il y a plus d’instruments ! Est-ce que l’on peut imaginer un troisième album encore totalement différent ? Est-ce que vous êtes déjà en train d’y travailler ?

Erki : On espère bien qu’il sera différent, nous avons changé au fil des ans. Mais nous avons découvert qu’il y a des choses dans la nouvelle matière qui sont en connexion avec le premier album, mais aussi avec le deuxième, ce sera un mix des deux. Nous avons écrit le second album tel qu’il est parce que nous avions commencé à jouer le premier en live, et nous avons découvert ce que nous avions en commun, notre son.

Ewert : Et nous espérons également faire quelque-chose de totalement nouveau. Mais une fois de plus nous devons attendre et voir, nous ne savons pas vraiment encore.

Math’: Nous avons parlé de vos influences, pouvez-vous nous dire quel serait le groupe dont vous rêveriez de faire la première partie ?

[Erki et Ewert sont totalement perplexes !]

Ewert : C’est difficile à dire…

Erki : J’imagine qu’il y en a beaucoup me concernant, et beaucoup pour Ewert… Donc si nous en choisissons un se serait injuste envers notre bassiste et notre batteur qui ont leurs propres rêves peut-être… Il y a tant d’artistes que j’aimerai rencontrer et partager la scène…

Ewert : Tu n’obtiendras aucun nom !

Math’ : Non visiblement pas, donc ok on a terminé !

Ewert [se moquant de mon faux air vexé !]: Ok je suis sûre que nous devons pouvoir trouver quelques noms !

Math’ : Non, aucune obligation, mais je ne sais pas, LE groupe auquel vous ne pourriez dire non ? Par exemple, moi mes dieux personnels sont les Black Keys…

Erki : Notre tour manager serait dingue si on ouvrait pour les Black Keys. On les écoute, ce serait bien… Donc tu veux des noms ?

Math’ : Non, ça ira comme ça !

Ewert : C’est mieux, on ne froisse aucun groupe comme ça ! [LOL]

Math’: Ma dernière question est super nulle, j’ai déjà honte mais tant pis je me lance: did we have you at hello ce soir ? On vous la fait souvent non ?

[“You Had Me at Hello” est un des titres de l’album, expression et trait d’humour intraduisible désolée !]

Erki : Euh… Non jamais en fait…

Math’ : Non ? Jamais ? “You Had me at Hello” et donc did I have you at hello?… [Je suis tellement gênée et ils ne comprennent absolument pas la blague !]

Erki et Ewert [comprenant enfin après mes explications foireuses !] en chœur : si bien sûr, tout à fait !

Pour conclure nous avons donc vérifié sur nos smartphones l’existence d’un Elliott le dragon et mon honneur est donc sauf, le film existe et s’appelle Pete’s Dragon, Elliott étant le dragon ! C’est sur ce mode potache que se termina l’interview qui fut à l’image du concert qui suivit. Ewert et Erki ont beaucoup d’humour, ils ont souvent parlé en chœur, l’un commençait une phrase que l’autre terminait, ils s’interrogeaient du regard avant de répondre. Les 4 Estoniens plein d’avenir sont extrêmement complices, espiègles et touchants, et sur scène leur alchimie est encore plus visible, contribuant à la réussite de leur prestation et embarquant le public dans leur univers. L’énergie était extrêmement positive et je n’ai donc pas pleuré sur “SailorMan”, chose qui les a visiblement perturbés ! On s’est promis de faire mieux à Grenoble car oui, les Rhône-Alpins, si vous les avez manqués à Lyon vous pourrez les voir avec Rover au Cabaret Frappé le vendredi 27 Juillet.

I already wrote here my enthusiasm for Ewert and The Two Dragons’ album. Swann and I went to see them in Bourges where they opened for Ben Howard, and we definitively fell for them. So I was literally running to see them at the Epicerie Moderne on that Friday of May 25^th. Friday night… Meeting therewith  my friend “photographer” Caroline… To be honnest I also run for a good beer ! So it is in this kind of cool atmosphere that we got a chance to meet the whole group of dragons and then we had a chat with Ewert (lead singer) and Erki (guitar, backing vocals).

Math’: First, I have to apologize… Because when I first read about you it was in Les Inrocks, famous French music magazine. The first lines of the article were something like “coming from Estonia, bla bla…” and that’s how far my reading of the article went ! I just thought, ok Next ! And I’m so sorry… Do you feel that there are a lot of stupid persons like me ?!

[Imagine the face of the guys not amused yet and totally horrified by my question !]

Ewert: No, I wouldn’t say that. The way things are, it’s our fault if you don’t know anything aboutEstonia. Obviously, cause now you know and you know I hope for a reason. Maybe you didn’t know before because there was “nothing” to know; Maybe just the time wasn’t  right and hopefully you will hear a lot of cool and nice bands fromEstonia.

Math’: That was actually my next question, are there a lot of other young talented groups like you ? Is there a new scene?

Erki: There is one really. There is also one festival we have to thank a lot where we played just before releasing Good Man Down which is Tallinn Music week, which has supported us, inspired us to go really outside, explore and play all overEurope. And I think it is also inspiring the other bands, to go see what’s happening out there. But nobody has really done “that” before…

Math’: So it is going to be an invasion from the East ?

Erki: Hopefully !

Ewert: Maybe !

Math’: You feel like you are the dignified representatives of your country, or do you feel that music is simply universal and your origins have nothing to do with your music ? You’re just a regular band ?

Erki: Well, we always say that we are from Estonia, so people know why we speak English !

Ewert: It’s mixed feelings, for me I personnally believe that music IS international like language.

Erki: Especially now…

Ewert: Our music doesn’t really represent our origins. It’s nothing like Estonian folk. There is probably something from America or from Ireland, and maybe even something from German church or organ music which I really like, like in our song “Pastorale”. So the background spector is pretty wide. And I think that as a band there is no point to say we’re an Estonian band, so we come from Estonia, and that’s as far as it goes.

Math’:You’ve been touring in France for a couple of months now, what would you say about the French audience ? Any surprise ?

Erki: One surprise is that really people know are music already. We’ve seen that everywhere inFrance I think, which is really cool ! That’s a surprise ! And people are warm and very open to talk about what they think about our music, or how they feel about it. So it ‘s really nice when you go sell merch’ and you get a chance to meet the audience and everybody wants to talk and share, it’s been really nice.

Math’: Tell us more about the story of the group ? Friends, family, tell us your story ?

Ewert: We probably look like family but we are just friends ! [shared laughs]

Math’: That’s because of the beard !

Ewert: Yes and we’re all blond. We’ve been friends for a long time already.

Ewert and Erki: So it’s basically a family.

Math’: You are Ewert and so THEY are the dragons ?! Where does that come from ? I knew Elliott and the dragon didn’t you ?

Ewert and Erki: No… [Embarassed looks at the crazy blond in front of them !]

Math’: The Disney Movie ?! Elliott and the Dragon !

Ewert and Erki: Ok… No… [LOL]

Math’: You have to check that ! There is an Elliott and the Dragon !

Erki: Really ? No you’re making this up, are you ?

Ewert: There’s no real story behind it. When we started it, in 2009, the first record we didn’t have any serious plans, I’m sure we had ambitions but they were more abstract, no real plans. We just wanted to make some music and then we started doing that. And then we finished recordings and we had some schedule, certain time aspects that we needed to work with and then we just kind of run out of time. In the beginning my wife made a joke like why not Ewert and the Two Dragons? I guess I said it in the rehearsal room and then that was it, and we had no time… These guys said they never really got the joke ! But that’s the real name !

Erki: It was meant like a working title but then we had this gig coming, like our first gig with that material and then we didn’t have any time to think of any other name.

Ewert: We tried but…

Math’: What are your influences, what’s your musical background ? What did you listen to as teenagers?

Erki: It’s really wide, since we’re 4 guys, we’ve been friends since we have basically moved out of our homes. So we have this history before that, so like when you have your biggest influences.

Ewert: So we probably all had at the similar time the Radiohead period.

Math’: Everyone does !

Erki: Yes it’s true, it’s kind of when we met I think ? Before it was a lot of Rolling Stones…

Ewert: 3 of us lived in the same apartment so obviously you end up listening to the same music. “Oh what are you listening ? Ah ok give me that !”

Math’: What do you listen to right now in the tour bus ?

Erki: We listen to a lot of things. We listen a lot to the bands we play with, that we meet here, we always exchange CDs. You get to know all those local artists.

Math’: You’ve discovered French groups ?

Erki: The guy that we played with inParis: Arch Woodman. And the band we played with inHyeres [try to say Hyeres in English when it’s not your mother language, it sounds like a cat cough !]: Erevan Tusk.

Ewert: Then we listen to the radio, local radios, ‘cause sometimes you just don’t want to listen to anything in particular. The truth is that we just don’t have a proper soundsystem in the car so you only hear just a tiny bit of the real songs.

Math’:Who’s doing the lyrics writing ?

Erki: Both of us.

Math’: I’m always very interested in lyrics, in the story behind the song. Jolene is a name that came to my ears very often lately, on our blog we did a playlist of oldies but goodies and we had Jolene from Dolly Parton, a close friend of mine told me then to listen to the cover by Anneke Van Griesbergen, then I saw the movie The Town, with Ray Lamontagne’s Jolene in the soundtrack! So who’s that girl ??? Who’s YOUR Jolene ?

Ewert [asking Erki ]: Who’s your Jolene ?!

Erki: That can remain a secret. But of course it is personal, it has to do with my life… First of all it just came because it rimed with the chorus melody. I just liked to sing Jolene and then I made the lyrics around it and then it sort of fitted into my own life or the period I was going through at that time.

Math’: Actually I thought that it was an answer to Dolly Parton’s Jolene?

Erki: It is also, at the same time. There’re many stories ! If you don’t really want to talk about your personal life, you disguise it ! And then it’s really nice to have these different ways you can think of.

Ewert: It’s like the man point of view of Parton’s song.

Math’:I described your album as sunny, songs like Good Man Down, There’s only love, Jolene, just make people wanna dance ! Then, on the opposite, songs like Falling, You had me at Hello are very emotional, intense. I personnaly have to confess that “Sailor Man” makes me make cry pretty much everytime I hear it, like in front of my very surprised and embarrassed neighbour in a plane… How do you feel about provoking that kind of feelings in your audience ? Both dancing and crying ?!

And Actually Ewert, YOU don’t dance that much on stage !

Ewert: I am limited my occupation in the band being the keyboard player.

Erki: We have to get you that 80’s synthetizer !

Math’: You’re sitting, you can’t dance !

Ewert: I feel that the audience can feel that gap in my life…

[Big shared laughs !]

Math’: So is it the reason why you do music ?

Ewert: I don’t think any of us when we write the lyrics or when we write the music we try not to think from the audience point of view. Not like in a bad sense, but the fact that it’s evoking these feelings in the audience is not coincidence. Maybe it’s inevitable in some way.

Erki: Yeah I think so too…

Ewert: It’s something on how we felt, it’s not done intentionally. DANCE NOW ! CRY NOW! It’s nothing like that.

Erki: I think it is inevitable really, because if you’re writing something which is based on strong emotions, you won’t loose the energy, it’s constant so if what you write is based on strong feelings then it will go on to the audience. And then if you see that effect on people, I think it’s the best thing that can happen with an audience, that they get strong feelings. Either if it’s if you feel happy or if you feel like crying, maybe it’s not really sad crying. And with other band you might feel aggressive, music is just the place where everybody comes and meets and get this strong feelings.

Math’: Your first album The Hills behind the Hills and Good Man down are very different. The first one is way darker than this one ? and it seems like there are more of you, more instruments on the second one ! Can we imagine that the third album totally different? Are you already working on it ?

Erki: Hopefully it’s gonna be different because we have changed through the years. But we have discovered that something in the new material has a connection to the first one, but also the second one, it’s gonna be a mix of both. We wrote the second album the way we did, because we started playing the first album live, and we discovered something that we really have in common, our sound.

Ewert: And hopefully something totally new as well. Then again we just have to wait and see, we don’t really know yet.

Math’: We talked about your influences can you tell us what artist or group you would be dreaming to open for ?

[Erki and Ewert are silent and sceptical!]

Ewert: It is hard to say…

Erki: I guess there’s many for me, there’s many for Ewert… So if we say something it will be unfair to the bass and the drummer who have their own dreams maybe… There are many artists that I’d like to meet and share the stage with…

Ewert: You’re not getting any names !

Math’: No I’m not ! So ok we’re done then !

Ewert: Ok, I’m sure we can come up with some names ! [making fun of my feinted humiliation!]

Math’: No but you know THE group you couldn’t say no to ! Like my personal Gods are the Black Keys…

Erki: Our tour manager would be crazy if we got the Black Keys. We listened to them, it would be great… So you want names ?

Math’: No, no I’m fine !

Ewert: Good so no hard feelings with any bands… [LOL]

Math’: My last question was a very, very lame question, but still, I try: did we have you at hello tonight ? You probably get it all the times no?

[Erki and Ewert silence and puzzled !]

Erki: No we don’t…

Erki and Ewert: yes you did, you SOOOO did !

Finally we checked on our smartphones the existence of an Elliott the Dragon, and I saved my reputation because the movie DOES exist, it’s called Pete’s Dragon and Elliott is the dragon ! And it’s on that very friendly mode that we ended the interview which was very representative of the concert to follow. Ewert and Erki have a great sense of humour, they often spoke in unison, one started a sentence that the other one would finish, they questioned each other before answering. Those 4 talentuous Estonian guys share a nice complicity, they are very mischievous and moving at the same time. Their chemistry is even more obvious on stage, making their live performance a real success, the audience being totally seduced by their music. The energy was definitely positive so I did not cry during “Sailor Man”, which caused them a lot of frustration ! We promised each other that we’ll do better in Grenoble, because lucky people from Lyon, if you did not get a chance to see them that night, you can come to Grenoble on July 27^th for Le Cabaret Frappé where they’ll share the stage with Rover.
